Entry Requirement

The following is highly recommended:

  • Either “Achieved” or better in PE Achievement Standards 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 from  L2 Physical Education
  • Or: For those without NCEA Level 2 Physical Education, NCEA L2 Science and English grades will be considered as pre-requisites, as well as an interview with the Mr Harris.

Cost

Approximately $500 to contribute to costs for Rafting, bouldering, gym session and the ski trip.

Course Outline

The course is 50% theory and 50% practical.

  • Bouldering - Designing, implementing, reviewing a physical fitness programme for performance in bouldering.
  • Knowledge of Squash - Analysis of biomechanics, anatomy and motor skill learning; performance in Squash.
  • Critically Assess An Issue – Research assignment, a contemporary physical education issue.
  • Leading the way - leadership skills in Taieri Rafting Challenge, plus adventure-based learning activities.
  • Snow Farm Skiing - analyse issues in Safety Management in outdoor activities.

Assessment

Internals - Physical Education is 100% Internally Assessed

AS 91499 - Analyse a physical skill performed by self or others - 3 credits

AS 91500 - Evaluate the effectiveness of a performance improvement programme - 4 credits

AS 91501 - Demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting - 4 credits

AS 91502 - Examine a current physical activity, event, trend or issue and its impact on New Zealand society - 4 credits

AS 91505 - Examine contemporary leadership principles applied in a physical activity context - 4 credits

AS 91504 - Analyse issues in safety management for outdoor activity to devise a safety management strategy - 3 credits

Where Does It Lead

To future involvement in sport, recreation and fitness.

Good preparation for: tertiary studies in Physical Education, teaching Physical Education, Leisure Studies, Health Sciences, Sports Management/Sciences, Parks and Recreation, Personal trainer courses, Sports Institutes for Sporting performances, Physiotherapy.
