Course Outline

In this course, students

  • investigate our local geology in Dunedin,
  • report on an issue related to Earth and Space Science,
  • study how organisms survive in extreme environments
  • carry out an investigation into their choice of marine science, hydrology, geology or astronomy

There is one external and this will be a majority vote; one is on extreme Earth events in New Zealand such as tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanoes while the other studies life cycles of stars and other planetary systems.

91187   Carry out a practical Earth and Space Science investigation     4 credits

91188   Examine an Earth and Space Science issue and the validity of the information communicated to the public     4 credits

91189   Investigate geological processes in a New Zealand locality    4 credits

91190   Investigate how organisms survive in an extreme environment    4 credits

Choose from:

91191    Demonstrate understanding of the causes of extreme Earth events in New Zealand    4 credits

OR

91192   Demonstrate understanding of stars and planetary systems    4 credits
