Tena Koutou Katoa. Greetings
Congratulations to the Kavanagh Bishop's Shield team who finished in second place with Verdon College taking out the honours this year. There were some incredible performances with our Senior Debating taking out first place as well as Senior and Junior Drama finishing first and second respectively. Thanks to our staff, especially Ms McGarry, for being our host coordinator this year. Next year is the 75th so it will be a great goal to go one better!
On Tuesday, being the Feast of the Assumption, we also celebrated Kavanagh Day. It was one of the best Kavanagh Days in recent memory with the students really getting into the spirit of it with plenty of fun and laughter. Staff also put in a great lip sync performance showing their versatility.
On the Board of Trustees front, we farewell Bernadette Drummond this week who has been a long serving Bishop's rep on the Board. Bernadette is leaving Dunedin to take up a high academic post at the University of Leeds. She has made an outstanding contribution to Kavanagh and this year was elected deputy Board chairperson. Thank you and Godspeed Bernadette. The Board has also filled the parent's rep position that became vacant last term.
Congratulations to Marama Pohatu (nee Roberts) who has been unanimously co-opted onto the Board of Trustees. Marama stood in last years election and was the next highest polling parent's representative. She brings a wealth of experience and her whanau has had a long association with Kavanagh. Nau mai mihi mai Marama.
This week has also been tinged with sadness at the sudden passing of Maureen Bretherton, a long serving Kavanagh staff member and counsellor. Maureen was held in high esteem by students and staff alike and will be sadly missed. We also remember Sharon Cowie, our canteen manager, and family whose father passed away recently. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
