On Tuesday the14th of March six Year 12 girls - Daisy Jarvie, Aya Oseki, Sophie Golden, Ciana McIvor, Harriet Faulkner-Barclay and Monique Hollis-Pye were lucky enough to be a part of the young women in leadership program at the University of Otago.

We started the day by being split off into groups with other girls from different schools, which gave us a great opportunity to meet lots of new people.

They began by talking to us about leadership and what it means to be a good leader, and the different types of leaders you can be. We had three guest speakers who talked about their experiences with leadership which we were very grateful to hear about.

In our groups we were all given a different topic such as well-being and empowering youth. We were given the task to create a project based on this topic to help benefit young people in our communities, such as creating a place at break times where juniors can go and play games, get tutored and spend time with other students.

We are excited to get the chance to go back at the end of May, and learn more about leadership and give a presentation on our project.
