Entry Requirement
Performance in L1 History or in the core subjects at NCEA Level 1: English, Science, Mathematics, will be considered as indicators.
Cost
Nil
There is an optional trip to Vietnam for an approx cost of $6,700. This trip is not required for assessment purposes.
Course Outline
A range of History topics are studied as the following basic skills are learned and put into practice:
Basic Skills:
- Information gathering
- Information Processing
- Presentation of Information
- Critical thinking
Topics:
- Tragedies: The MyLai Massacre, The invasion of Parihaka, The Partition of India, The Mount Erebus Disaster, The Wahine Disaster, The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.
- Conspiracy Theories: John F Kennedy's Assassination, 9/11, Marilyn Monroe's Death, Adolf Hitlers Death, The 1969 Moon Landing, The execution of the Romanov Family.
- The TET Offensive.
- The 1917 Russian Revolution.

AS 91229 - Carry out an inquiry of an historical event or place that is of significance to New Zealanders. 4 credits
AS 91232 - Interpret different perspective of people in an historical event that is of significance to New Zealanders. 5 Credits
Externals
AS 91233 - Examine causes and consequences of a significant historical event 5 credits
Optional Achievement Standard
AS 91229 - Examine sources of a historical event that is of significance to New Zealanders. 4 Credits
Where Does It Lead
