Level
Building & Construction Industry Organisation (BCITO) Achievement Standards that have been specifically designed for use in school workshops.
These are classified as Building and Applied Trades Standards. (BCATS)
Entry Requirement
Experience in Year 9 and 10 Technology Hard Materials would be an advantage but not essential.
Cost
Students will be charged for the materials that make up their individual products according to the quantity and quality of materials they choose to use. Students are encouraged to cost each project prior to manufacture.
Course Outline
Students learn to manufacture products that meet the requirements of a given design brief and specifications. needs of clients and stakeholders. Focus is given to developing each student's skill in the efficent and safe use of machines, tools and processes to construct timber based projects.
Development of key competencies including time management, planning, drawing and communication of design ideas decisions.
Assessment
Student evidence for assessment will be presented in the form of Portfolio and finished projects.

A.S.40542 Use of hand tools for a basic BCATS project. Credits 5
A.S.40544 Carry out construction processes for a BCATS project. Credits 8
A.S.40540 Safety - this will be continuously assessed throughout the year. 4 credits
Where Does It Lead
L2 Technology - Hard Materials
This course provides a solid foundation for further study and learning in any hard materials qualification. It also gives valuable general knowledge in materials and processes that will benefit any participant with maintenance of homes, furniture and property in later life.
