Caritas Challenge

On Thursday, 29th May, a group of us (Year 13 students) took on the Caritas Challenge, spending the night at school sleeping in cardboard boxes, eating only plain rice, and giving up screens and comfort. From 3:00 PM until 8:00 AM the next morning, we experienced a small glimpse of what life is like for those living in poverty.
What made the challenge even more real was the weather. It rained throughout the night, and strong winds made it cold and uncomfortable. Despite these conditions, everyone pushed through, showing resilience, teamwork, and care for one another.
With no phones or distractions, we played games, shared stories, and truly connected as a community. The time away from screens allowed us to reflect on how lucky we are, and to appreciate the basic things we often overlook – like shelter, warmth, and food.
The Caritas Challenge is designed to help us understand what life is like for those living in poverty and hardship. By giving up comforts like warm beds, home-cooked meals, and technology, we stepped into the shoes of those who don’t have those things daily.
It was a powerful night filled with learning, laughter, and teamwork. A reminder that when we come together, we can make a real difference.
