Planning For Life Beyond School: Kia Tū Pathway Planning Student Led Conference

For Trinity Year 11 Students and Caregivers: Bookings close this Sunday 17th August.

Year 11 ākonga

Our College has begun working with Murihiku Regeneration to implement the Kia Tū pathway programme. This programme is designed to support students to develop a pathway through senior school to the start of their adult life and work. Kia Tū, literally means an invitation to stand up. The year 11 students have been working on this programme on Thursday mornings with our "Skills for Success" teaching team, led by Mr Campbell.

The vision is that all young people in our school will create their own personalised pathway plan shared with the school and their whānau. The direction students take is up to them and you. Our role as a school is to support their aspirations and work to ensure they have the foundation of capability needed to realise their dreams.

A critical part of this programme is a 'student-led conference' where the student will present to their caregivers and their Kaiārahi (pastoral teacher) where they have come from, where they are at, and where they might be thinking about heading. This will be an incredibly rich discussion we believe.

The student-led conference, where you will have an opportunity to hear your teenagers aspirations for life and work will take place at the College on Thursday 21 August.

The students will also outline what they plan to do next year for subjects and other activities that will build the foundations for their transition from school to further education, work and life. By doing this in year 11, they have time in year 12 and 13 to further develop their ideas and sense of direction.

Booking a time for the student led conference: We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 21 August for this student led conference. The Year 11 students will not have their usual timetabled classes on this day and will only be required to come into school for their 15 minute conference with caregivers. The rest of the day will be devoted to study time preparing for school "mock exams". We ask that you book a 15 minute conference time slot via parentinterviews.co.nz using the Code V6LF2USE

The available times to book a student led conference on the 21 August are from 11.00am to 7.20pm. Please make a booking with your teenagers Pastoral teacher - you will need to know who this is before booking. Note that bookings will open on Friday 1st August at 9:00am and close at 11:50pm on Sunday 17 August.

Please note this is 10 days after the Subject specific parent teacher interviews on the 12 August.

We believe this programme has strong alignment with our purpose as a school. In the meantime we look forward to seeing you on: Thursday 21 August.

Please contact Steve Read, Mike Campbell or our Year 11 Dean Iris Bugarski if you have any questions.

Best regards

Steve Read, Mike Campbell & Iris Bugarski
