A Message from our Principal

It has been two weeks of contrasts – and not just in the weather! Last week was full of celebrations and farewells accompanied by the energy and emotion that sits with those final experiences. This week has been quieter, more settled, and with numerous tutorials and focussed study for seniors, but with the same youthful energy coming forth from our junior years as Year 7-10 students complete exams, assessments, camp preparation and ongoing pantomime and sports practices.

Last Wednesday evening we acknowledged the high achievers and prizewinners in the senior school and celebrated the successes that have been achieved as a result of dedication, effort and resilience. Among the awards were service awards that acknowledge those students who continually give back to our college in a variety of ways, whether that is in library service, supporting visiting groups, in care for the environment, or in service of young people from around Dunedin at the Edmund Rice Camps. These awards are certainly not to be overlooked. The recipients are chosen because they exemplify the values of our college and they continue to look for ways they can contribute to a better life for those around them – thank you to you all.

Among the evening’s awards were eleven new ‘Wall of Fame’ awardees. This is a big number made impressive by the fact that the student needs to have placed in a national competition or equivalent, or represented New Zealand in their endeavours. Congratulations to these new inductees. It was also pleasing to highlight the Trinity students gaining over $200,000 worth of University Scholarships as they move into tertiary courses – well done!

The ultimate academic awards this year – Proxime Accessit and Dux – were awarded to Holly Waterworth and Louis Le respectively. Congratulations to these two impressive young people who role model work ethic, commitment, and have a healthy attitude towards failure which then creates a stronger, more resilient learner. I have no doubt that our academic prizewinners will continue to thrive in the academic world.

Chasing close behind our seniors are many very capable, hard-working junior students, and it was a pleasure to award a big number of awards at assembly this week – from Science Badges to Swimming Trophies to National Spelling Bee Placegetters to aspiring authors. It was great to see another good number of Good One recipients as well. You can read more about these in this newsletter.

As we get into the pointy end of planning for 2026, if you know of anyone planning to enrol who has not yet done so, can you encourage them to do so as soon as possible. Growing numbers in the junior school mean we are making strategic decisions about numbers of classes and the more information we have, the easier this is. Thank you for your help.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead.

With God’s Blessings,

Mrs Kate Nicholson

Principal
