Around The World With Year 10

Where do you want to travel one day? This is a question our Year 10 cohort mused over recently...

Year 10 Social Inquiry students have been investigating the human and natural geography of a country of their choice. As part of their inquiry, students created detailed “suitcases” that explored significant sites, important people, cultural elements, demographic information, and how someone might travel there from New Zealand, including estimated costs.

Students then presented their findings to their classmates, aiming to persuade others to “travel” to their chosen destination. Each student received a boarding pass to cast their vote for the country they found most compelling.

The Year 10s impressed their teachers greatly. Many groups included interactive elements in their suitcases and used colour, symbols and text in a string way.

A selection of these outstanding suitcases is now on display in the school library. Our librarian, Colette, has curated a range of diverse texts from around the world to accompany the exhibit, offering students the opportunity to issue books connected to the countries explored.
