By Mike Waterworth | Posted: Wednesday September 4, 2024
The NZQA Literacy and Numeracy|Te Reo Matatini me te Pāngarau standards are now a mandatory aspect of the NCEA qualification.
All Year 10 - 13 students, who still need to achieve these standards for their NCEA qualification, will have the opportunity to attempt the standards on the following dates:
Monday 9 September - Numeracy
Tuesday 10 September - Literacy Reading
Wednesday 11 September - Literacy Writing
There will be two further opportunities next, and each subsequent year.
If you are not sure whether your student has achieved the standard(s) or not:
Your student can login in to their NZQA profile to check
Your student can communicate with their English and / or Mathematics teacher
You can email me and ask me to check
Students will be working in English and Mathematics classes to prepare for these assessments. Please make contact with your student’s English and Mathematics classroom teacher if you have any questions, or need some guidance, about preparation.
These assessments will be completed digitally using NZQA’s digital Assessment Master platform. Students will be guided through the digital preparation that is required for this including:
Creating and checking NZQA logins
Completing the NZQA digital exams Device check table and Device checklist
Familiarization with the digital assessment platform
It is essential that students have access to a working device (chrome book or laptop) for these assessments. A limited number of spare devices are available for loan. These can be booked by making contact with Nathan Sortenhaug - nsortehaug@trinity.school.nz
On the days of the assessments students will need to be prepared with fully charged devices, charging cords and/or powerbanks as a backup, and earphones if they are planning to use text to speech. Text to speech is available to all students.
Students who qualify for Special Assessment Conditions will be catered for according to NZQA examination rules. Please contact Vicky Jones - vjones@trinity.school.nz if you have any questions related to Special Assessment Conditions.
Students should prepare properly and thoroughly for these assessments, however they should also understand that they will have further opportunities every year until they are able to achieve them.
Ngā mihi
