Year 13 Geography Students visit Queenstown (August 2024)

Last week our Year 13 Geography class went on an expedition to the great town of Queenstown. This was in preparation for our Geography external exam on how tourism has shaped Queenstown over time. We got to be a ‘tourist for a day’, and really enjoyed activities such as the Luge, Gondola, and the Real NZ Jet Boat. We talked to people from many organisations such as the Queenstown Lakes District Council, Department of Conservation, Queenstown Resort College, and the Queenstown Airport. This was a great trip, where we learned heaps about the positive and negative impacts of tourism, and considered how it might develop in the future. Sampling the local delicacies featured high on the agenda, we treated ourselves to a diverse array of culinary delights including Pizza Hut, Giblets, Arrowtown bakery treats and Elliot’s 5 star bagel melts. We investigated how Ferg Burgers rated compared to Wahlburger and Black Burger outlets, while the teachers sampled the new gelati bar.  All up we had a fantastic trip.
