Shanghai International Sister City Youth Camp

Over the past two weeks Esther, one of our Year 12 Trinity Catholic College students, had the privilege of attending the 2025 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth camp. She was selected by the Dunedin City Council along with four other students from Columba College, Kaikorai Valley College and Queens High School.

The two week programme was themed “Communication, Cooperation, Friendship, Understanding.” Students had an incredible opportunity to experience courses on traditional Chinese culture, visit universities and attractions in Shanghai, participate in a Sister Cities Youth Forum and immerse themselves in local life by spending a day with a Shanghai family. Equally important, was the chance to connect with others from 18 different countries around the globe.

As well as working alongside international students and teachers, our New Zealand group was accompanied by a Chinese English teacher and three Chinese students. Over the two weeks we built friendships through shared experiences and enjoyed conversations and learning about each other’s cultures. Their kindness and hospitality made our trip truly special. We all return to New Zealand with many wonderful memories.

Special highlights for Esther were the friendships she made, visiting Shanghai Ocean park, the night Riverboat cruise and connecting with others from all around the world to learn about their cultures and countries.

What an incredible experience!
