Trinity's Matariki Festival

A massive thank you to everyone who supported our recent Matariki Festival! Organised by Cultural Prefect Riley Matthews, alongside the dedicated staff and students of Te Kāika Moana Pastoral Class, the event was a spectacular success. Hundreds of people turned up to show their support, enjoying everything from delicious hot hāngi and pumpkin soup to freshly cooked fry bread and beautiful handmade poi.

The funds raised from this event are going directly toward improving Te Kāika Moana, a hub that serves our entire school community. This versatile space hosts a huge range of school-wide fundraisers and essential initiatives, including:

• Daily Support: Our daily Breakfast Club, providing free cereal every day for any student who needs kai.

• Cultural & Spiritual Gatherings: Mihi whakatau for important school guests, Te Kapa Haka o te Whetū Tīrama, Tangata Moana, and Friday Prayer Groups.

• School Events: House Feast Day celebrations, international lunches, community gatherings, and staff meetings.

• Sports & Activities: Serving as a base for Kī-o-Rahi.

Where the Funds Are Going

Thanks to your incredible generosity, our very first purchases for Te Kāika Moana will include:

• A much-needed new fridge with a fully working freezer.

• Steel-bottom pans compatible with our induction oven.

• Funding for Māori ventures, including new tags/rippa belts for Kī-o-Rahi and contributions toward the Year 10 Te Reo Māori Leadership Camp.

We have fewer than 20 beautiful handmade poi left and we would love to see them all go to good homes. If you are interested in purchasing one, please email: ptili@trinity.school.nz
