Trinity Catholic College had four teams competing in the Otago Junior Volleyball Champs recently, and we are extremely proud of all our students, coaches and management who represented our school with pride.

Wow! What an incredible weekend at the Otago Volleyball Champs with four amazing Trinity teams competing. I am so proud of all the players and have seen the incredible growth in individuals and the teams.

A special congratulations to Made Newson and Konrad Maaka for making the tournament team.

We are also super proud of our Trinity Boys team who had a strong tournament. Placing 5th overall in the boys division, this was another great team performance by Trinity College. Well done!

Congratulations teams and thank you to all coaches and managers who were supporting our teams. We look forward to sharing our journey at the South Island Champs in a couple of weeks. Good luck to all teams.

"Otago champs was a great experience being my first time I didn't know what it was going to be like. My team and I did great and only lost one game, finishing 3rd. The atmosphere was great and I felt that the team and I really came together, no matter the score we kept our heads up and continued pushing till the end. I picked up a lot of skills that I will bring into the rest of the season.

I am so exited to see what the rest of the season brings and to see what we can achieve at South islands."

Niamh Higgins (Year 10A team)

"I think Otago Champs was a challenging weekend for my team, as Term 4 was our first time playing together. Day 1 we came second in our pool putting us in the top 8. Winning 1 of our games in the second day put us in a close playoff for 5th-6th. This tournament was a great experience and really helped our team to bond and get closer. Throughout the tournament we kept our spirits high, I'm very proud of my team and we are all excited to represent Trinity at South Islands. "

Harper Clark (Year 9A team)

"The TCC Year 9 Red team were very excited about entering the Otago Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Tournament. Little did we know the emotional roller coaster we were in for! The tournament is run using international rules and regulations that are required to be followed not only while playing but also while refereeing. A big thank you to Vanessa Clark who helped the girls with their first ever experience of refereeing and scoring in a tournament environment. All girls participated in the referring and scoring process. Saturday was a very challenging day for the girls having suffered 3 defeats over a 10 hour day. Sunday however was a completely different story. Our first game on Sunday was an absolute cracker of a game resulting in our first win of the tournament. Despite the 3 losses on Saturday the team worked incredibly hard to stay positive for the entire tournament.  This really helped the team see the importance of relentlessly encouraging each other even when behind on the scoreboard. This game was followed up with another win - What a performance! The team got themselves mentally prepared to face a team we lost to on the previous day, winning 2 - 0. These two wins put us into a playoff for 9th and 10th. Girls are very proud of themselves for achieving such a great placing."
