Joseph Kelly heading to International Choir Festivals

Joseph Kelly is one of just three Dunedin singers selected for the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir (NZSSC) for 2025 and 2026. He has been appointed leader of the tenor one section.

The choir sings in many different languages, including Māori, Samoan, Tongan, Latin, French, German, Spanish and Estonian! Several songs also incorporate movement and dance.

Recently the NZSSC held a public concert at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington.  As well as singing in the choir, Joseph accompanied the choir on the organ and played bass guitar for another piece.

The choir announced last week that their international tour in July 2026 will include the World Choir Festival in Hong Kong and the Singapore International Choral Festival, with participating choirs from all over the world.

The NZSSC will hold a concert in Dunedin next April, ahead of their international tour. They will also perform at the 2026 Big Sing Finale in Christchurch next August.

Joseph is grateful to receive the Trinity Catholic College Catherine McAuley scholarship this year to help support these cultural activities.
