FLL First Lego League Robotics Competition
By Administration | Posted: Thursday November 6, 2025
On Saturday 1st November an intrepid group of first-footers competed in the inaugural First Lego League Robotics competition in the DNI school hall. With a dozen teams and 150 people in the hall, they started strongly in the robotics games, gaining convincing scores and showing some early talent. Working hard through the day to improve their robot design and strategies, they were let down in the third round by a couple of rogue moves by their little Lego friend.
The competition has four sections:
The robot game. An exercise in problem-solving and decomposition.
The robot build. An application of the Design Thinking process
Innovation Project. A research project including an Inquiry and the development of a prototype solution. In this case they looked at visualising in archaeology to inform and create interest in the general public for digs.
Participation, teamwork and enthusiasm, the core values of the competition.
The team did an excellent job in all areas but were just pipped and won’t be going to the nationals in Auckland this time around.
With their unbridled enthusiasm, and a year to prepare, there is every chance in 2026.
