Keeping Safe over the Summer holidays

No one intentionally goes out to get into tricky situations.
Wānaka has become a popular tourist destination for Christmas and New Years. In recent years this has led to several issues arising due to alcohol related harm. No one intentionally goes out to get into tricky situations, but they often happen when alcohol is involved.
Parents play an important role in helping young people prepare for safe and positive experiences. Some helpful tips to ensure you are setting them up for success are:
Talk openly: Have open and honest conversations with your young person about their plans, your expectations and how to handle tricky situations.
Plan regular check-ins: Set up agreed times to message or call and have an expectation of regular updates.
Promote sticking together: Encourage them to create a plan with friends on how they will look out for each other.
Emergency contacts: Make sure they know that in an emergency or if uncertain to always call 111. They are there to help.
If you or your young people are headed to Wānaka for the summer break, more helpful information can be found here.
As the holiday season approaches, we pray that all our Trinity Catholic College community experience a safe, fun and joy filled break with their friends and whānau wherever they may be.
