TRINITY BOOK WEEK 2025

Trinity Book Week was a wonderful celebration of the written word, creativity, and the joy that comes from reading.
Trinity Book Week has been a school-wide celebration, an opportunity to honour the written word, spark our imaginations, and share our love of reading.
Our Year 7 and 8 classes had lots of fun taking part in the 'Free the Teacher' library challenge—an escape room-style activity that never fails to entertain.
In this event, the class teacher was chained and padlocked to a chair, while student teams raced to solve a series of literacy-based questions to uncover the secret word that would unlock the padlock and release their teacher.
It’s always a highlight of Book Week, with plenty of laughter and excitement, as students love the chance to lock up their teacher!
This year, we were privileged to welcome children’s author Samantha Montgomerie, who presented to our Year 7–9 students. Samantha is an accomplished author with an impressive and diverse body of work.
She captivated the audience with stories of her journey from a passionate young reader to a published author. Her presentation had the auditorium buzzing with laughter and curiosity as she shared some of the fascinating and unexpected topics she explores in her non-fiction writing.
The session concluded with a Q&A session, featuring questions submitted by our students. Many of our aspiring authors took this opportunity to glean wisdom from a successful author.
We were also privileged to welcome Vanda Symon to conduct a writing workshop for our Y11 and Y12 students. Vanda has been a three-time finalist for the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Crime Novel, and in 2022 and 2024, she was honoured to have been nominated for a USA Barry Award. Securing her place among New Zealand's best crime writers. Vanda's workshop gave our senior students insight into her creative process and the stories behind her captivating characters.
Book Week wrapped up with our much-anticipated Dress as a Book Character Day, a highlight for both students and staff. One student from each year level was awarded a book voucher for their outstanding costume, and the creativity, effort, and imagination on display were truly inspiring. This year, we invited our students to donate a non-perishable food item to support the St Vincent de Paul Food Bank—and they didn’t disappoint.
Our Young Vinnies, along with Jo Bell, the St Vincent de Paul Youth Coordinator, were kept busy collecting generous donations from across the school.
A heartfelt thank you to our school community for your incredible generosity and to our students for helping make Trinity Book Week a memorable success.
