Taieri College Sports Exchange.
What a beautiful Spring day we had yesterday in Mosgiel. The conditions and field were perfect as our Junior Rugby team kicked-off to hosts, Taieri College. A strong chase line quickly put the opposition under pressure and sure enough after some quick hands, the points came a few moments later with Fergus Barnett opening the scoring. After the restart, Taieri College knew they did not make tackles, they would pay the price. Tommy McEntyre was again in top form as he sliced the opposing backline to pieces running in his first of four tries. Halfback Isaac Jago combined nicely with first five-eighth, Joe Burke. The duo were reading play well and making sound decisions with ball in hand.
Dynamic forwards Laken Jones, Max Morgan-Eathorne, Eti Vaeau and Jake Lucas carried the ball strongly and made a number of bustling line breaks that set up some outstanding team tries. When Trinity entered into Taieri's half, territory was almost always converted into points. At half-time, Trinity were leading six tries to one. The second half was a different story at the hosts came out of the sheds with gusto and scored a well worked try. Trinity had to work a lot harder on defence in the second spell and managed to repel wave after wave of attack. Charlie Sutherland showed his Taieri Eels club mates that were playing for Taieri College how to time the jackal for that big turnover. Year 7 enforcer, Levi MacBeth put in a big shift as did his fellow Dunedin Sharks team mate, Harris O'Sullivan. Tomasi Tili tackled with heart as did Zak Harris and Blake Joubert. Credit must go to both teams for playing a fine game of running footy in great spirit. Final score was: Taieri College 15 - Trinity Catholic College 59.
That brings us to the end of another footy season and a huge thank you must be extended to the coaches, parents, teachers, whānau and sponsors who have supported our Junior team and all Trinity Rugby players this year. We have an exciting programme in place for 2026 and we will start pre-season training in March. No reira e te whānau whutupōro, nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi!
