Samuel wins with 'constitution' and is off to Wellington to compete for $5,000

Congratulations to Samuel (Year 9) for placing in the top three and securing a place in the Aotearoa Spelling Bee finals. Samuel and a parent get an all expenses paid trip to Wellington where he will compete against Aotearoa's top spellers. On Monday, he competed against 65 students from around Otago and Southland and confidently held onto his top position. Students took turns at spelling words out loud and were challenged with words such as : bountiful, semantic, buffoon, harass, inherent, recumbent, sanctuary and premonition.

Camila Barns fought well too where she made it to final eight. Julian Osland, Jah-la Rust and Anabel Rutledge successfully made it to the final 30 where they all competed in the oral rounds.

For the first time, Trinity had an outstanding 12 students make it to the semis. Well done to the above students as well as Kaila Rioveros, Dion Augustine, Matthea Mendoza, Skyla Knopp, Erwan Artus, Olivia Clearwater-Harwood, Isla Harris and Mekita Lei Sam who worked studiously over the past couple of terms in class and and at home. To be ranked in the top 350 spellers in Years 9 and 10 in New Zealand is quiet an accomplishment and Trinity is proud of all the students' .

All the best for the finals in October, Samuel. We look forward to hearing how you go.
