Celebrating Science Badge Success
By Jessica Latch | Posted: Wednesday March 25, 2026
There has been growing popularity in the Science Badge programme recently, and Ms Lach has been enjoying reading through the wonderful observations and discoveries being made by the participants. Of note have been Luna Kang, who has been working through 7 different badges already this term. Wonderful work, Luna!
The badges often allow for creativity and artistic expression, and the Science Department was particularly impressed with a stunning poem by Jah-la Rust that she completed as part of her Ornithology (study of birds) badge that highlights her interest in pigeons. You can read the poem below.
If you are interested in completing a Science Badge, please join the Google Classroom using the code: nh5qsp2
You can complete as many or as few badges as you wish by selecting an activity sheet and recording your work for the tasks onto a portfolio or Google Slides/Doc. You must complete enough tasks to equal 20 stars to earn your badge. Your work must be your own (not AI generated), but you will need to do some research to complete them. It is mainly for students in years 7-10, but year 11 are welcome to complete badges as well. Badges cost $6 each. Any questions please see your Science teacher or email Ms Lach (jlach@trinity.school.nz).
The ‘anathematized’
Orange-slice eyes,
feathers soft as eiderdown,
as it flies by,
its wings make a singing sound.
Grey feathers clothe the body of this little bird,
as it flaps its wings and coos so loud,
it fights to be heard.
Once loved, now a pest,
this bird carries much history,
personally, this bird’s the best and it deserves to be
loved by many people, even everyone,
with their gorgeous iridescent feathers gleaming in the sun.
All they want is a little love,
something they once had,
and now they scour on the streets
lonely and
sad.
