Sports Tournament Week Wrap 2026

Tournament week 2026 wrapped up on Saturday September 5th with our boys Senior A Basketball team finishing 8th in the South Islands A schools qualifying tournament at the Edgar Center in Dunedin. The boys fought hard throughout the 4 days but were hit with injuries which did cost them in the end. Thank you to Oli Pali Coach and Brendan Jarvie Manager for all the work throughout the season.

Our Senior A Girls competed in the Southern Cup from September 2nd - 4th in Dunedin and finished a very credible 5th place, their goal was to make the top 5 and they achieved that which was awesome to see. Thanks to Piata Rapata-Hanning and Kyra McEntrye for all their hard work throughout the season.

Our Boys Football team competed in the Linwood Cup in Dunedin from Monday 31 August to Thursday 3 September in what was a very competitive tournament which was effected by weather. The boys finished 10th out of 20 teams which was a big improvement on previous years. Thanks to Jachery Joseph and Benji Appleton for coaching and to David Sole for managing the team.

The Girls First XI football team travelled to Invercargill to take part in the Lotto Sportswear tournament, they also were impacted by weather early on. The girls performed with credit losing a couple of games by only 1 goal and finished 14th overall. This was also the last tournament for several of our year 13 girls who have given great service to Trinity girls football. Many thanks to Georgia Kennedy for coaching and to Iris Bugarski for managing the team.

Our two Junior Boys and Girls basketball teams travelled to Christchurch to take part in the Junior South Islands, this tournament was held from Saturday 29 August to Tuesday September 1. The girls participated in B grade and finished 2nd overall losing to Nayland College in the final. The boys who were in A Grade finished 4th overall in the South Island losing to Nelson Boys in the semi final by 5 points, a team they had beaten in pool play, although disappointing for the boys they have had a remarkable season and can be proud of their efforts. Thanks must go to Kalas Taukamo coach, and manager LJ Patston for all your dedication throughout the season. To Kyra and Piata and Gary also a huge thank you for your dedication to the junior girls basketball programme.

Our Senior A Girls Netball Team travelled to Nelson, and performed well across the week, lifting their overall ranking in the B Grade Division from 23rd (in 2025) to 12th this year - entering the top half of this division. This is an encouraging improvement for the team and sets up next year's Senior A team for an exciting competition. Well done girls! Finally our U14 Boys Rugby team headed to Westport to take part in the rural livestock U15 tournament. Coming up against much bigger opposition our boys aquitted themselves very well throughout the week. They also got to take in some of the breath taking scenery the west coast has to offer. A heartfelt thanks to Tim Lucas, Hamish Sutherland, Michael Jago, and Jo and Nathan Murdoch for all your help on the trip.

To all our community (and beyond) who helped with Fundraising to assist our teams in getting away for tournament week - thank you! Winter Sports week is a massive undertaking and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff that covered here at school while people were away with teams. Bring on 2027.
