A Message from our Principal

Term two is nearly finished and this is my last newsletter comment for the term. I am sure all our young people are ready for a break from school and a time of rejuvenation before term three. This year, Matariki falls in the school holidays and I hope the holiday break helps to set aside time for gathering together to celebrate this special event. We do have a special event next Tuesday evening to celebrate Matariki as a college community - check the newsletter for more information. I was looking back on past newsletters and came across what I wrote in 2022 regarding Matariki in its first year of acknowledgment with a public holiday.

The comments from 2022 are as valid today – ‘re’ is a common prefix, but it is particularly prevalent in descriptions of the Matariki long weekend – a chance to reunite, reflect, remember, revisit, reconnect. The opportunity to do these important things is a privilege that we have available to us, but many times we don’t take advantage of it. I guess this is one of the messages we try to get across at school – there is always an opportunity to have another go, whether this is in learning, feedback on an assessment, resitting an achievement standard, or in fixing relationships through conversation and forgiveness. It is important for all of us to have hope that we can fix our mistakes, that we won’t be judged for them, and that trying again will be just fine. That is the true definition of learning.

We are in the midst of planning for our 150th Anniversary weekend in October. The 150th page with more information can be found on our website at

Trinity Catholic College 150th Anniversary Website

Registrations are open from July 1st. If you are an ex-student or know someone who is, please check out the events that we are planning for the weekend. Just like my words above, it will be a wonderful chance to reunite, reflect, remember, revisit, and reconnect. Please help us spread the word.

Similarly, our Open Day is scheduled for Sunday August 2nd at 12.30pm. If you know anyone considering Trinity as an option for their child’s secondary schooling, please let them know about this. Enrolments will close this year on Friday 21st August. Because our roll is getting full, it is important that people get their enrolments completed early.

Finally, have a wonderful holiday break – including a break from washing uniforms and making school lunches for a couple of weeks! It has been a wonderful term of strong learning and plenty of achievements to celebrate and I am looking forward to term three.
