Hermione Sparks (Year 11) has been busy preparing to represent New Zealand at the IDO World Tap Dance Championships in October. The Championships take place in Prague and will see up to 1500 competitors from 28 countries taking part.
Hermione was selected for the team in September last year. To be eligible for selection, dancers from across New Zealand competed at a completion in Wellington. The judges selected eleven dancers from that competition to form the first ever New Zealand team to compete at the World Championships.
Since then, Hermione has been travelling across the country to get together with the team and their head coach to work on group dances, trios, duos and individual solo dances. The team training usually takes place over three days and includes long days of dancing, workshops with trainers, masterclasses with dancers from overseas, and health and wellness mentors. During the most recent school holidays the team met in Christchurch and Seven Sharp spent a few hours interviewing the team and filming their dances. This exciting news item was featured on television last Friday evening.
What a fantastic opportunity for this talented team of dancers. Congratulations Hermione! We are extremely proud of you.
