Explaining the Conclave

By Junior Special Character Leaders | Posted: Wednesday May 14, 2025

Kia Ora everyone! We are Freya, Elise, Bella, and Sirafin, and we are honoured to be Trinity’s 2025, year 7-9 Special Character Leaders! We hope the first term of school has gone well for everyone, and you are all enjoying being back from break.

In today's newsletter, we want to share with you the meaning of a Conclave. A Conclave is a private meeting where important decisions are made in the Catholic Church. It’s when cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City to choose a new Pope. They’re locked in until they agree, and white smoke signals when a new pope is elected. If the smoke is black, it means they have not decided yet and have to stay in the Vatican until they decide.

Go out and be kind to one another, and join us in this prayer.

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the gift of the Church and for the leaders you raise to guide us in faith and truth. As the Cardinals gather in Conclave, we ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit.
Grant them wisdom, unity, and discernment as they seek to choose a shepherd who will lead with humility, courage, and compassion. May the one chosen reflect the heart of Christ and be a beacon of hope in our world.
We pray for peace, for clarity, and for your will to be done. Amen.
