Junior A Netball Team Shines at South Island Secondary Schools Tournament

What an incredible week it was for our Junior A Netball team at the South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament in Christchurch!

Heading into the tournament, the girls were quietly hopeful but lacked confidence in what they could achieve against some of the strongest school teams in the South Island. Over five unforgettable days, however, they exceeded all expectations, both their own and those of their supporters.

The team opened their campaign with several impressive wins, setting the tone for an outstanding tournament. As the competition became tougher, so did the girls. Their skill, determination, teamwork, and confidence continued to grow, and they played some exceptional netball throughout the week.

Our initial goal was to finish in the top 16, but after some outstanding performances, that quickly shifted to aiming for a top-eight finish. The girls didn't stop there. Following an incredibly competitive final playoff, they secured an outstanding 6th place overall. Reflecting their hard work, resilience, and commitment they showed throughout the tournament.

While the results were fantastic, what stood out most was the growth of this group. Their positive attitude, strong team culture, unwavering support for one another, and determination to improve each day were inspiring. Lifelong memories were made, friendships strengthened, and some stellar netball was played.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the team throughout their journey. We are incredibly grateful to our school community for supporting our fundraising efforts, which helped make the trip possible. Thank you also to the many families and fellow students who travelled to Christchurch to cheer the girls on.

Finally, a special thank you to Mrs Mortimer, Mrs Harris, and Mrs Nicholson for attending so many of our games and supporting the team throughout the tournament. Your encouragement meant so much to the players.

Congratulations to our Junior A girls on an outstanding tournament. You represented the school with pride, sportsmanship, and determination, and you should all be incredibly proud of what you achieved.
