Parol Making Contest for Students

Kia ora! Magandang Araw!
On behalf of Banyuhay Aotearoa Charitable Trust, I'm excited to invite your school to participate in our Parol-Making Contest - a highlight of this year’s Paskuhan sa Barangay Banyuhay festival!
This is a wonderful opportunity for your students to learn about and experience one of the most cherished traditions of a Filipino Christmas. The parol (a traditional star-shaped lantern) symbolises hope, light, and the festive spirit of the holiday season.
We warmly encourage both Filipino and non-Filipino students to take part. This activity is perfect for fostering cultural appreciation, creativity, and community connection. It’s a hands-on way for students to work together, learn about Filipino heritage, and contribute to a colourful, joyful celebration right here in Christchurch!
Contest Highlights:
- Open to: Schools and student groups across Canterbury and the Greater South Island.
- Registration Deadline: 31 October 2025
- Parol Drop-off: 29 November 2025, 5–8 PM, Cowles Stadium
- Judging and Announcement of Winners: 30 November 2025, Cowles Stadium
