Year 8 Gold Netball in Millers Flat

On the first weekend of August our Year 8 Gold netball team travelled across to Millers Flat to compete in the annual 7-a-side tournament. It was such a great experience last year and we were keen to do it again, to see how much we’ve progressed since our 2025 season. It was also one of the highlights of our season and development as a team.

The shock of playing outside with snow on the hills didn’t deter our girls. In fact, it seemed to bring out the fight in them, as many also had to battle through the sicknesses that had recently hit school. They gained great experience playing shorter outdoor games, initially in cold conditions, which gradually warmed into a beautiful winter day in Central. The team relished the chance to play styles of netball different to what we get in Dunedin and showed what hard work and commitment looks like.

In terms of results, these were a big improvement on last year. They started strongly with three wins, then had a very close loss and in the end a loss to the team that placed 2nd overall.

• Won 14-3 against Matak Club

• Won 10-4 against Terrace, Alexandra

• Won 11-5 against Shotover Primary

• Loss 8-10 against Queenstown Primary

• Loss against Cromwell College

A huge thanks to all our supporters and “team Mums and Dad” who travelled up and cared for us during the day. It meant that we could put our best efforts out on court and we really appreciated you all! A special shout out to Claire Giles who had to run around in the cold as much as we did to umpire and to Katie Montgomery, Manager extra-ordinaire and scorer.
