A Message from our Principal

Welcome back to Term 3 at Trinity and I trust that all our young people found time to ‘just be’ and reset themselves ready for the spring term.
I spoke to our year 10-13 students at their senior assembly yesterday, about the need to think hard about the ten weeks ahead this term and aim to be the best versions of themselves possible by thinking critically about their time management, how they look after their wellbeing, and creating good balance in their lives. All of these year groups have significant milestones they need to aim for as the term moves on. The majority of Year 10s have their corequisite NZQA reading, writing and maths exams to work towards, while our year 11 to 13 students are ensuring the work goes in to give them confidence in their NCEA qualitification being successful. We are certainly at the pointy end of the year with only 13 more weeks of school until study leave for NCEA exams. The practice exams at the end of this term are important. This is the reason I call them ‘practice’ rather than ‘mock’ exams. They are a chance to wrap up all their learning, practice applying it to unknown questions and nail down the merit and excellence answers they should all be aiming for. Our teachers work very hard to ensure that your children know what success looks like and they scaffold how to get there. Taking up this help and using it for the benefit of their own success is up to the students. What we ask of you as parents, in partnership with our staff, is to support your child’s academic progress with conversations about balance and learning priorities for this short and important time. Meetings about your child’s achievement and progress are scheduled for week 5. I strongly encourage you to ensure you spend time with your child’s teachers to get a good understanding of where they are at and what support will help them gain what they are capable of this year. As always, if you have concerns, please speak to a dean or a member of the senior leadership team. We are all here for the same reasons as you – to help your young person aim high and achieve well.
While we are proud of all our Trinity students, there are some special congratulations in this newsletter highlighting some of the public achievements our students have gained over the last few weeks. Well done to all of them! Those representing our college across a wide range of opportunities have done so with pride, commitment and respect – thank you!
Have a wonderful end to your week.
Ngā mihi,
