Matariki 2026 - Matariki Herenga Waka

This week we celebrate the rising of MATARIKI/Pleiades – in celebration of praise, and thanks to our God for the provisions of Papatūānuku/Earth, its harvest, our whānau, our challenges and our successes - a time to prepare the soil for planting; Pōhutukawa, one of the stars in the Matariki cluster, carries special significance as it connects us to those who have passed during the year. Matariki also symbolises renewal, life, and hope for the year ahead.

Born of stardust, we one day return to the Creator of the Cosmos. Job 9.9: “He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, of Pleiades, and the constellations of the south”.
