Year 7-9 Te Timataka Students Creatively Present Their Ideas For Book Week

By Maggie McGarry | Posted: Thursday July 10, 2025

Among the array of activities throughout the week, Year 7-9 students pulled out all the stops to share their creative ideas around literacy. From chalk art to literacy displays - the judges were well impressed with students' aroha for literacy.

For the first time, classes took part in creating a literacy display that could be used for Open Day where the winning class won a popular canteen treat of a fruity ice each.

Winners for 2025 are: 8BON with not just one but five displays highlighting their love of literacy, Year 8 made it a challenge, however, this year's winner is 8KEN with their puntastic food/literacy displays (and free book marks), and 9MCHA for their 9 collage of the class' favourite books.

Chalk art was a success again this year. Students were put into groups of four and had to design a book cover with chalk. The winning team of each cohort got a $5 canteen voucher per student.

Thank you to the HoD of Art, Mr Pickles who was our impartial judge this year; his winning selection and feedback for 2025 was:
