13PE Rafting Trip

On Thursday the 13PE class went rafting as part of their leadership unit.

Our Year 13 Physical Education class headed out for a rafting trip along the Taieri River - and although the rain set in early, it certainly did not dampen spirits. Not a single complaint was heard all day. Instead, students embraced the conditions, leaned into the challenge, and made the most of an awesome experience.

After gearing up in wetsuits, life jackets, and helmets, the group walked along the Taieri River Track, before reaching our rafting starting point. The rain added to the sense of adventure, creating an authentic outdoor learning environment where resilience and teamwork were immediately put to the test.

Throughout the day, students rotated through five different challenges, each led by a different student leader. The purpose was not just physical participation, but to explore leadership in action - experiencing different leadership styles, adapting to varied communication approaches, and reflecting on what effective leadership looks and feels like.

The challenges included:

Filling the Bucket Challenge

Team Running Challenge

Cross the River Rafting Challenge

Flip the Raft Challenge

Rafting Race Challenge

There were plenty of laughs along the way, moments of chaos that turned into learning opportunities, and genuine reflection about leadership strengths and areas for growth. Students showed adaptability, encouragement toward one another, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

Despite the wet weather, the energy remained high from start to finish. The day was a reminder that outdoor experiences do not need perfect conditions to be meaningful - sometimes the challenging environments create the best learning.
