Year 12 Biology: Career Pathways in Medical Laboratory Science
By Kirsten Lloyd | Posted: Wednesday August 20, 2025
Our Y12 Biology class were lucky enough to have an engaging presentation from Helena’s Mother, Dr Magda Ratajska, from the University of Otago. She talked about her genetics and cancer research, which linked in with our 2.7 Gene Expression unit. It was interesting to learn about the inheritance of the BRCA gene, how they sequence samples and treat patients with personalised, precision medicine. Dr Ratajska also discussed her career pathway, which was particularly inspirational being a woman in Science, and encouraged the students to investigate the pathway of Medical Laboratory Science if they were interested in this career path.
