The Senior A Boys Basketball team recently traveled to Invercargill to compete in the Southern Cup Tournament, facing off against top schools from across the South Island. Despite drawing a challenging pool, the team showed resilience and skill throughout the week.
After tough losses to James Hargest and Taieri College, the boys bounced back with commanding wins over Rangiora High School and Cromwell College, securing a spot in the tournament’s top 10. On the final day, they delivered a dominant performance against Darfield High School, winning by an impressive 40 points. Later that evening, they faced Central Southland College in a hard-fought loss to finish 10th overall.
Beyond the competition, the team enjoyed a memorable week of bonding and basketball. A highlight for many was returning to the motel after games to rewatch their performances on the tournament livestream—complete with commentary.
A special shoutout goes to our Year 13 players Ben Casey and Oscar Ung, who played their final games for Trinity. Their leadership and dedication have been invaluable to the team. We also extend heartfelt thanks to coach Olly Pali, who flew down from Nelson after coaching the Junior team to join the Senior squad in Invercargill.
This trip would not have been possible without the generous support of our Trinity Basketball sponsors: Patston Media, Flagstaff, Ellisons Aluminium, and Marycare Ltd, as well as funding assistance from the Grassroots Trust.
Congratulations to the team on a fantastic tournament and for representing Trinity with pride & sportsmanship.
