SUPER COACH 2025 🧢

Our annual Super Coach unit is underway with our Year 12 PE class, and once again, it’s been a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
This unit has become a bit of a favourite, and for good reason. It’s packed with powerful teaching and learning moments, genuine connection, and plenty of fun.
As part of the unit, students work in small groups to plan, prepare, and deliver a series of PE sessions, three for junior students and three for seniors. They design drills, skills-based activities, and small games, and put a big focus on group management and communication strategies.
From the start, it’s a student-led process, with collaborative planning, shared leadership, and real ownership of their sessions. It’s great to see student agency at the forefront.
We also bring in key concepts like tuakana-teina, with our senior students stepping into leadership and mentoring roles. It’s always nice to see the softer side of students - the encouragement, the patience, and the sense of pride they show when guiding younger students through activities.
Throughout the unit, students are constantly evaluating how things are going. They reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and how they can refine their strategies to better support engagement, behaviour, and skill development in their groups. It’s authentic, real-world learning that helps develop confidence, adaptability, and empathy.
A huge thank you to St Joseph’s for once again welcoming us in and being so accommodating. The relationships our students build through this experience, both with each other and with the younger year levels, are valuable, and it's a highlight of our year.
