Success for Trinity Taekwondo Athletes

Timaru recently hosted the 2026 WTNZ Combined Friendship Martial Art Tournament where Taekwondo athletes from around the region had the opportunity to compete alongside Karate athletes under a set of hybrid rules designed to accommodate both martial arts styles.

One parent reported that "The tournament was a great experience for competitors and their families, as different martial arts clubs came together to showcase their skills. This is what martial arts is truly about — our opponents are not our enemies; rather, they help us become better athletes by challenging us and pushing us to improve".

Marcus (7OCN) competed in the event, and continued to excel in his disciplines, achieving the following results;

  • Gold Medal – Sparring (Kyorugi)

  • Silver Medal – Individual Poomsae

Lyonesse (8MCE) also attended the tournament in Timaru and won a Gold medal for her Poomsae, winning the overall best award in her division. Congratulations Lyonesse - a fantastic achievement!

Another Trinity student Nahoa (8KEN) took part in the competition and also came home with a medal! Well done Nahoa.

We are incredibly proud of all our students who participated in this great tournament, and again encourage those who compete in these competitions to load their points into the system so that Trinity can maintain a strong ranking on the national Taekwondo stage!

Our athletes are looking forward to more opportunities to learn, grow, and build friendships through martial arts.
