South Zone Athletics

On Wednesday 29th October, in conditions that must have inspired the saying "four seasons in one day", a small team of 25 Year 7 and 8 students represented the college at the Caledonian Ground in the South Zone Athletics.
In this day-long event, our students participated with plenty of effort and determination, competing fairly throughout. They enjoyed considerable success too, with most students making finals and good numbers qualifying for the Otago Athletic Champs later in the month.
Notable achievements included Iyla Bradley setting an Otago record in winning the U12 80m sprint. Tom McIntyre claimed first place in both the 100m boys 13+ and the hurdles race that followed straight after. Tomasi Tili won his U12 boys 60m sprint, while Sammy Cotter enjoyed numerous successes, including a fantastic win in the U13 girls hurdles. Harris O'Sullivan and Eamon Henderson capped a busy day in the field events with impressive second-place finishes in discus and high jump respectively. There were plenty of other placed finishes for our team, and hopefully when a full set of results is available, we will be able to publish these in a future newsletter.
Thank you to the parents who came down to help – your support and help was greatly appreciated. To Mr Haig, a big thank you too for his organisation of the event. Finally, an acknowledgement of our incredible team of students whose behaviour and support for each other throughout the day was outstanding.
