Congratulations to Year 9 student Anabel Rutlege, who won 2nd place in the
Dunedin Youth Poetry Writing Competition for Y9-10.
Anabel is making amazing gains in Literacy and achieved 50/50 in the first NZ Spelling Bee competition, earning her a place in the semi-finals with several other Trinity students.
Anabel read her poem at the awards ceremony last Friday.
He waits
With his fathomless blanket
Ready to smother the earth
And take over the sun's reign.
He is the night.
He draws closer
Draping his blanket slowly over the world
And as the sun sinks into the horizon
He rules.
He is the night.
He pulls his blanket
Over this colourful marble
Clothing it in inky blackness
Impossible to find your way home.
He is the night.
He watches
As the world turns off its lights
Embraces the darkest of darkness
And goes to rest.
He is the night.
He sighs
As the sun's fingers pull it into the sky
And he must take his dusky blanket
And retreat, once more, to make room for the day.
He is the night.
