Last week four groups of students from Kavanagh presented scenes at the Shakespeare Festival which they’d been preparing all term.
The performances were all very different from each other, but were all wonderful and Kavanagh College came away with a number of awards:
Winner - 5-minute Scene:
Macbeth - Ted Kerr-Bell, Troy Kubala, Isaac Tili and Sam Kelekolio
Runner-Up - 5-minute Scene:
Hamlet - Michael Louw-Young, Meila McCartney, Phoebe Harris and Jemma Mortimer
Runner-Up - Best Stage Presence:
Ethan O’Brien - Pyramus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Overall Design - Macbeth
Best Stage Fight - Macbeth
Best Use of Sound - Macbeth
Best Comedy - A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Best Use of Chorus - Hamlet
The cast of Macbeth will now be winging their way to Wellington at Queen’s Birthday weekend to take part in the national competition.
A huge thank you to all those who assisted our students with preparing their Shakespeare scenes, particularly drama teacher Erica Ward and Rebecca Meikle (costumes), and also to the following people who specifically helped the Macbeth team - Connor Ropata (mau rākau training), Matua Tili, Whaea Maya and Matua Mac Te Ngahue (OGHS) (support with providing Pasifika drums, taiaha and piupiu maro), Keisha Su’a and Melina Lam Cheung (tā moko assistance).
Well done to the students who took part - you did an amazing job and we’re proud of you all.
