A Message from our Principal

Mālō e lelei, Tālofa lava, Greetings

It is wonderful to have all our young people back safely after the recent holiday break – our buildings are full of energy again. As always at this time of year, there is a palpable sense of purpose as seniors tidy up loose ends, reflect on recent practice exam feedback and results, and prepare for end of year events. With only three weeks left with our senior students, teachers and students are working hard to ensure exam preparation is thorough. Teachers are running tutorials, providing extra curriculum support and doing their best to ensure that our senior students are well prepared for their exams. Please work with us by ensuring that your children are spending quality study time at home and seek out support where it is needed before it is too late. The next 13 school days are crucial.

Running alongside thorough exam preparation, is our prefect and head student selection process. I am encouraged by the good number of wonderful year 12 students who have had the courage to put their hands up for these jobs; I am even more heartened by their reasons to do so and their desire to serve the student body. We will announce our leadership team of six which includes our special character prefects, at our final school assembly on October 28th.

While our seniors are fully focused on the next couple of weeks, our year 7&8 students are beginning the swimming component of their PE course, year 10s are looking forward to camp, and year 9s to retreat in a few weeks after their upcoming junior exams. This term is going to move through quickly!

Students will be wearing summer uniform this term unless they are requested to wear winter uniform for formal events. While the summer uniform is more relaxed in warmer weather, the same expectations apply regarding jewellery, footwear and correct school jackets and sports uniform. We always have quite an amount of confiscated jewellery and hoodies in the office – this creates work for staff and obviously a considerable amount of money is tied up in confiscated goods. Please ensure your children leave these at home – not bring them into school.

With the feast day of St John Paul II being celebrated on October 22nd, it is timely to recall some of his inspirational words -

The future starts today, not tomorrow.
Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.

Let’s keep encouraging our children to commit fully to their opportunities every day.

Have a wonderful weekend,

God Bless

Mrs Kate Nicholson
