The much-anticipated Matariki Night Market and Showcase held last evening was nothing short of a resounding success, leaving attendees in awe of the incredible talent and vibrant community spirit that filled the air.

This event not only celebrated the traditional Māori New Year but also provided an excellent platform for our students to shine and share their skills and creativity.

The night market was a delightful treat for the senses, and the delicious kai offerings added to the festive atmosphere. From fragrant fried rice and soul-warming soup to mouthwatering fried bread, popcorn, sherbet, and other treats, there was something to tempt every palate. Students had worked hard to prepare these delectable treats, and their efforts were met with delight and appreciation from everyone present.

Among the highlights of the night were the animal balloons, which were an instant hit with both the young and the young at heart. It was heartwarming to witness the joy on the faces of children as they proudly clutched their balloon creations, adding to the family-friendly ambiance of the event.

The true essence of Matariki, however, was most evident in the captivating performances showcased during the event. Our talented students took to the stage with utmost professionalism, captivating the audience with their talents in various forms of art and performance. The night was filled with music, dance, drama, and poetry, with each act leaving an indelible impression on the hearts of those who attended.

One of the standout performances of the night was by our school's very own Kapa Haka group. The Kapa Haka members presented a powerful and awe-inspiring performance that truly embodied the spirit of Matariki. Their precision, passion, and pride in their cultural heritage were evident, and their performance left the audience feeling a profound connection to Māori culture and traditions.

The community spirit during the event was heartwarming, with attendees coming together to support and cheer on our talented students. The overwhelming turnout and positive energy reflected the strong sense of community we have here at our school, and we are immensely grateful to all who came and supported the event.

From the students who worked tirelessly to prepare and perform, to the teachers and staff who guided and supported them, and of course, to all the attendees who contributed to the joyful atmosphere, your efforts are truly appreciated. In the meantime, let us carry the spirit of Matariki with us, embracing the themes of reflection, unity, and new beginnings throughout the year ahead.
