A reading from Prophet Isaiah

(42 :1 - 2,4):

“Here is my servant whom I uphold,

my chosen one with whom I am pleased.

Upon him I have put my spirit;

he shall bring forth justice to the nations.

He will not cry out, nor shout,

nor make his voice heard in the street.

He will not grow dim or be bruised

until he establishes justice on the earth;

the coastlands will wait for his teaching.”

Reflection:

Tuesday marked the feast day of the Blessed Edmund Rice, a man who was a perfect example of Servant Leadership. Edmund Rice was an individual who was touched by the Holy Spirit and dedicated his life to serving Christ, through looking after the marginalized. He was the founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers, two orders that helped to provide educational support for young people in need. The Christian Brothers are one of the founding orders of our school.

One thing that stands out the most about Edmund Rice is his unwavering love for God and his servant-hearted drive, both of which allowed him to take action on behalf of the vulnerable. He recognised the need for education for the poor, and took it upon himself to create opportunities and greatly improve the lives of others. His legacy still inspires people around the world to work towards a better society.

Here at Trinity, through the diligent work of staff, students and ex-students we are able to run camps for young people - Edmund Rice Camps. These camps are a special reminder that each and every child is a beautiful gift from God, we are given the opportunity to see this.

Prayer:

Loving God, may you bless us all as we strive to follow the faith and dedication of Edmund Rice.

May we always be mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves, so that we may give thanks for our circumstances, and seek to help those in need.

Through His Holy Name we Pray.

In the name of the Father

And of the Son

And of the Holy Spirit

Amen.
