Special Character Reflection

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic volunteer organisation that operates in various countries around the world, including New Zealand. The organisation is dedicated to serving those in need and providing assistance to individuals and families experiencing poverty and hardship. They stand by their fundamental principle that the primary goal of the Society was not charity, but the spiritual growth of the members of the Society. St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic organisation that provides support to individuals regardless of their religious affiliation.

This links to the Catholic Social Teaching of Common Good, this is working for the good of all people. Commitment to the common good means respecting the rights and responsibilities of all people. Our actions have an impact on wider society. It is up to every one of us governments, communities and individuals to promote the common good. When we make decisions, we should choose to consider the good of all. No one should miss out on the opportunity to grow and fulfil their potential. Each and every person deserves to have what they need to survive and flourish.

During COVID-19, St. Vincent de Paul Society in New Zealand demonstrated how they continued to work for the common good of all people. This conference of St Vincent de Paul is made up of a diverse range of people who are committed to helping make a difference for people facing various challenges.

On the 27th of October, on a Friday, there will be a food drive at Trinity, so please bring along some food to school to give to those who cannot support themselves at this time.

Tender God, refuge of the poor, You filled Vincent de Paul with the strength of the apostles to work for the salvation of the poor and the instruction of the clergy. May we who follow the example of his life be driven by unceasing charity to continue the mission of Your Son in the world. Amen
