Flash Fiction Celebration

Vanda Symon challenged students to write a flash fiction piece, and international student Jianing Zheng accepted the challenge.
During Book Week, Year 11 and 12 students were treated to a workshop with local crime fiction writer, Vanda Symon. She set a challenge to students to write a piece of crime fiction and send it to her for a competition.
Jianing took up this challenge and worked diligently on a piece that captivated Vanda and his teacher. Vanda was so impressed with his piece that she sent through a prize and gave him the following feedback:
Dear Jianing,
Congratulations on your wonderful flash fiction story, ‘Cleaner.’ The story was extremely well written, and the style and voice of your character were truly memorable.
I like the way your first paragraph established this individual as someone who was no ordinary person; they were someone unusual, cold, on some spectrum and very quickly, deadly.
Their coolness, calmness and detachment when the police visit each time is chilling and sets up beautifully for the final paragraph, the cold calculating of the next victim.
Well done on creating an excellent story.
Keep writing!
Best wishes,
Vanda Symon
Congratulations, Jianing! At Trinity, we are immensely proud of your commitment to this task and the recognition you received. It is great to see you having fun with a range of writing styles.
