Dominican Day Tomorrow - Friday 8th August
By Special Character Prefects | Posted: Wednesday August 6, 2025
With Dominican Day tomorrow, our Special Character Prefects Meadow and Isa, provide the following reflection on St. Dominic.
St. Dominic, born in 1170 in Caleruega, Spain, was a devoted priest and founder of the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominican Order. Known for his deep commitment to preaching and teaching, Dominic dedicated his life to combating heresy through education, prayer, and missionary work. His emphasis on scholarly study and living a life of poverty and humility helped shape the character of the Dominican Order, which played a crucial role in the intellectual and spiritual life of the Church throughout the centuries.
St. Dominic’s legacy continues to inspire many around the world with his example of faith, discipline, and dedication to spreading the Gospel. He was canonized in 1234, and his feast day is celebrated on August 8th. Which our school, and many others will be celebrating with a mass and a sausage sizzle.
Prayer:
Let us pray,
O most enlightened teacher of divine truth, Holy Father St. Dominic.
Who taught what was profitable for salvation and made yourself all things to all men, that you might win all to Christ; help us to close our ears and hearts to all false doctrine and whatever may be harmful to our souls and to open them joyfully to the truths of Holy Church.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
