A Message from our Principal

It was a pleasure to attend the Class Act Awards last week to acknowledge Anamika Jones and Therese Tili. Due to Therese being away overseas playing in the Handball Oceania Tournament, her parents collected her award in her place. As with all our year 13 leavers, it is a privilege in my position as principal to watch them grow into the fantastic young adults they now are, well ready to contribute to our world in a new, different, and exciting way.

Service comes in many forms. It can be quiet - connecting with a junior student at interval; or it can be part of a leadership responsibility. It can be expected as part of tradition and something we do every year, for example the Daffodil Day collections or Social Justice Week Can Drives; or it can simply be doing the right thing for those who need it most. Every year it is humbling to see the number of our senior students who volunteer their holidays to work as leaders at the Edmund Rice Camp with Amelia Bresanello and ex-students who continue to selflessly serve.

Earlier in the year, at retreat, our new year 13s were asked what they wanted to give back to the school during the year. One group committed in February to fundraising through Shave for a Cure. Every year, there are fantastic ideas that don’t quite get off the ground for a variety of reasons, but I am grateful to our young men who committed and quietly followed through with this initiative. Nine Year 13s yesterday had their heads shaved or hair cut in front of the school at assembly. There were definitely some nerves and I would like to publicly thank this group for their service, their quiet leadership and their dedication to following through on promises.

It is a big week coming up for our seniors. It was a wonderful experience to interview ten year 12 students earlier this week, who wish to take on the mantle of student leadership and service for 2026. The new head student team will be announced at our final full school assembly on Tuesday afternoon. At the same time, the ‘Book of Wisdom’ will be handed over from the 2025 student leadership team to the new team of six. This book documents advice and wisdom, do’s and don’ts, and plenty of encouragement, written by the current team to prepare the new year 13 leaders for the job ahead of them. I imagine it will quite an interesting book to read in years to come when students return for reunions!

Our Senior Prizegiving will be held on Wednesday evening and as always, it will be an opportunity for our community to acknowledge a year well done. We look forward to celebrating with you and your young people who continually make us proud.

With God’s blessings,

Kate Nicholson
