Spectacular Shakespeare Scenes

Congratulations to all the Trinity groups who performed superbly at the Shakespeare Festival last Thursday.
Trinity entered four 5-minute student-directed scenes in the Otago Regional Shakespeare Festival this year. The students had been rehearsing their pieces since the beginning of the school year and finally got to perform them last week to an enthusiastic audience at the King’s and Queen’s Performing Arts Centre.
In addition to performing, the students also got to watch all the scenes from the other schools and, with 31 pieces entered from 13 local schools, the day was certainly a full-on Shakespearean experience!
The scenes presented by our students were very well-received and two of our groups were selected for the evening showcase - Othello (directed by Joseph Kelly & Riley Culling) and King Lear (directed by Esther Koudayah).
We were also thrilled to be presented with the following awards:
Best Student Director - Esther Koudayah (King Lear)
Performer with Potential - Camila Barns (A Midsummer Night's Dream)
Direct Entry to NSSP (National Shakespeare Schools Production) - Joseph Kelly
Winner of the 5-Minute Scene - King Lear
The cast of King Lear will now participate in the National Shakespeare Festival in Wellington during King’s Birthday weekend.
Well done to all the Trinity students involved in the Otago Shakespeare Festival for their performances and their commitment. Congratulations also to the student directors - Laura Tagg, Theodora Clarke-Wallace, Esther Koudayah, Riley Culling, and Joseph Kelly. And, finally, a big thank you to Miss Whibley for all her guidance and support of the students.
