Kia Ora

Welcome back to those returning to Trinity Catholic College and a huge welcome to the new students who have chosen to join us!

Our names are Charlotte Harris and Beatrice Schonwald and we are your Special Character Prefects for 2024.

We are already in week 3 and this week we have been focusing on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Yesterday as a school we participated in an Ash Wednesday Liturgy to mark the beginning of Lent. These ashes we receive on our forehead are a symbol to do penance when faced with the forgiveness offered by Jesus. Traditionally the ashes are from the palms used on Palm Sunday from the previous year, which are also blessed before being used as part of the liturgy.

Hello, we are your Year 9 Special Character Leaders; Ellie Sutherland, Sophie Waterworth, Anamalia Tili and Lucy Koudayah.

On Monday 12th of February the year 7-9 students, Te Timatanga had their first chapel of the year. With a great start, it was centered around Leadership, Peace, the sick and the community. On Sunday the 11th it was the World Day of the Sick which we acknowledged with prayers for the sick. We also remembered and celebrated The Lady of Lourdes. It's sacred water we still use to bless and anoint the sick today. The chapel was involved in praying to Mary for healing.

On Tuesday the 13th we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is a day that people eat pancakes. This is because they wanted to use up their fats and eggs to stop themself from making sweet treats. Shrove means to repent or have your sins forgiven. This year the head students and some of the junior special characters made pancakes for all the year levels to enjoy before school.

Prayer for Lent by Junior Special Character Leaders

Lord, I know how much you love me. It's hard for me to feel it sometimes but I know your love is always with me. Help me use your love to preserve in my Lenten intentions. Amen

Prayer

Blessed are you O Lord

Who gives us life and all things

Lead us into repentance and

renew our lives with Your Grace

May the crosses of ashes that mark our foreheads

be a reminder that we belong to Your Son

May our worship and prayer be sustained

Throughout these days of Lent

We ask this through Christ our Lord

Amen

Have an amazing rest of the week! :)
