Special Character Report: Pentecost Sunday

By Special Character Prefects | Posted: Thursday May 21, 2026

This coming Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost, a day that marks 50 days since the commencement of Easter. Pentecost is often referred to as the “Birth of the Church” – it was when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, enriching them with the courage, faith and ability to spread the Teachings of Jesus.

Before Pentecost, the disciples were afraid and uncertain about the path ahead. But through the power of the Holy Spirit, they were transformed – becoming people of confidence, hope and action. This reminds us that God does not leave us to face life alone. We should take great joy in knowing that the same spirit that transformed those disciples 2000 years ago, lives in us today so that we too may be filled with strength and wisdom in our everyday lives.

In our world today, we can experience stress, pressure and uncertainty. The message of Pentecost encourages us to be people who bring light into these situations – through kindness, hope and faith. As a Catholic school community, we are called to not only learn about the Gospel, but to live it out in our everyday lives in the way we treat others and support those around us.

Pentecost also reminds us of the unique gifts each and every one of us has. God encourages us to use these gifts “to love our neighbour” and make positive contributions in our community.

May we fully place our trust in God to guide us in our ways, so that we may be filled with Hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.
